Children in Kenya

About Us

A holiday in Kenya in 1992, brought us, to Bamburi, where our journey began. We encountered a whirlwind of emotions on our first trip. It broke our hearts to walk hand in hand with the orphans, saying so many times ‘Jambo’ (hello) then watching them leave a small school, seeing them disappear into the bush, knowing that they were going home to lonely houses, some with no parents.

This moving experience started us on our long journey. We wanted to do something for the children living in extreme poverty and decided on our return to UK, to try to set up sponsorships for the orphaned children, to help with education, health and food.

The CHinK school was founded in 2007 with 6 children who received their education in a somewhat derelict church hall.

The CHinK Charity was started in 2007 and registered with the Charity Commission in 2008

An Unusual Gift

Early in 2008 we were asked to find an unusual wedding present for a couple who had already set up home. The wedding took place on 08.08.2008. After arriving back in Kenya in November we found the ideal present, in the shape of Freddie who was born on 09.08.2008. Perfect Find!

Freddie’s family live close to the new school site, so he will eventually attend the school. When we explained to the family what the sponsorship meant, they were overjoyed.
